select group of partners on an as-needed basis to secure specialized expertise

DL Doty is a national authority in strategic research and fund consulting for the nonprofit and education sectors and has trained and published widely. Her 25-plus years of expertise also extend to the pubic and private, and for-profit and nonprofit sectors.
A veteran social scientist, Dr. Doty is a seasoned professional with an industrial-strength work ethic, a pragmatic bent and a ready sense of humor. She also comes with a formidable intellect. This makes her background an ideal meld of scholarly precision, business acumen and entrepreneurial creativity that translates into bottom line results: advancing your organization’s mission and vision.
During her lengthy tenure, Dr. Doty designed and conducted a broad scope of research (local, state and national) addressing a multitude of efficacy, advocacy and policy issues, including trends in education, health, workforce and youth development. Dr. Doty also designs and executes statewide and longitudinal assessments for the NYS Departments of Education, Health and Labor, as well as for CUNY and SUNY University Systems and other area schools and school districts, and health and hospital corporations. Additionally, she conducts market research for the corporate sector, and has both client and supplier side experience.
Among other accomplishments, Dr. Doty’s fundraising prowess is legendary—she secured more than $37 million in public and private funding, and has designed and authored dozens of grant-based evaluations. Additionally, she helps clients develop strategic plans, conduct prospect research, prepare budgets and fiscal reports, manage funds, establish databases and tracking systems, and cultivate cooperative partnerships for projects and grants. She also provides Board and Start-up assistance.
A gifted and published writer, Dr. Doty is further skilled at planning, developing and executing successful communication strategies and marketing campaigns designed to enhance the visibility and viability of an organization, and advance its programs, services or products. Throughout her career, she has also held a number of freelance posts in the publishing and media industries, and served as Executive Editor for an international film magazine, Writer and Associate Producer for a public television documentary (distributed to PBS) and Content Producer for several digital entertainment and network design companies.
Prior to founding SSI, DL held senior and executive level posts in both the corporate and nonprofit sectors, and taught at the college and graduate levels at Fordham University. Currently, she sits on the Board of Directors for several local nonprofit organizations.
Dr. Doty is also a member of the American Sociological Association, the American Educational Research Association and the National Education Task Force on Accountability. She consults with schools and school districts on issues of assessment and evaluation, and conducts regional and national workshops and presentations on educational research and evaluation, and fundraising and grant writing.
Dr. Doty holds Doctorate and Masters degrees in Sociology from Fordham University and Bachelor degrees in Sociology and Psychology from Molloy College; she is a recipient of the prestigious Herbert H. Lehman Fellowship, two Fordham University fellowships and numerous other scholarly honors and awards. She is also a nominee for Who’s Who of American Women and most recently, a member of the Social Entrepreneurs of NYC. ______________________________________________________________________
A long-time associate, Jack Ryan agreed to serve as Senior Global Adviser to SSI to help guide the firm's global vision, strategic direction and operational management. As Global Adviser he is responsible for a broad range of global marketing and communications initiatives as well as client communications and overall company growth.
Recently retired from corporate life, Ryan has more than 30 years experience in the financial, management consulting and telecommunications industries. Prior to joining SSI, Ryan was Director of Global Marketing and Planning for ICCG and held Operational and Financial Management positions at TRW Corporation. He also served as Vice President of Marketing and Support and Vice President of OEM sales.
Ryan has a BS in Economics from New York University, a JD from Fordham Law School and an MBA from Wharton. Jack resides with his wife of 24 years in Westchester County, New York. ________________________________________________________________________
Dr. Rivera specializes in knowledge management and educational evaluation. He works collaboratively with public and private, NYC-area schools and school districts to build institutional capacity and facilitate new DOE reforms, academic planning and student assessment, measurement, data management and analysis.
Dr. Rivera has spent nearly 20 years in public education of a large urban school district, first serving as a teacher, then as a principal and finally as assistant superintendent for Testing and Accountability. Dr. Rivera was responsible for designing an electronic assessment and reporting system for K-12 education, and developed and administered city and state tests, compiled data and produced educational reports for students, parents, teachers and members of the school community.
In addition to his assessment and evaluation expertise, he has experience in curriculum and professional development, as well as writing and managing federal, state and local grants. He is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and the American Society of Public Administrators.
Dr. Rivera received his Doctorate and Masters in Education from Fordham University’s School of Education. ______________________________________________________________________
Ms. Ianola is a healthcare researcher who has more than a dozen years of public health experience. Her research work focuses on healthcare access and service, quality and operational process improvement, cost reduction, human resource research, patient, provider and staff satisfaction research, evaluation of disease management, case management, health education and community benefit programs.
Ms. Ianola also works with health and educational organizations to provide product and materials development, fund development, grant writing and training. Prior to SSI, Ms. Ianola was a therapist at a facility that serves the elderly, and taught underserved adults and children at a community center. Ms. Chu began her career in the nonprofit and education sectors and is currently a research associate at ASI where she works on a variety of projects in the areas of student learning, professional development and organizational development. Leslie also assists organizations in with strategic planning and policy analysis.
Ms. Chu is a recent graduate of Harvard Graduate School of Education where she obtained a master's degree in administration, planning, and social policy. Her graduate studies focused on the evaluation of education policies, development of assessment tools, and analysis of organizational effectiveness. Prior to SSI, Ms. Chu was a research assistant at Bank Street College’s Center for Children and Technology. ______________________________________________________________________
Mr. Stein specializes in knowledge management, information technology and data management and analysis, and is particularly adept at generating, analyzing and interpreting statistics and creating user-friendly data formats (e.g., tables, graphs, charts) for reports and presentations. In addition, Mr. Stein constructs web-based and electronic surveys and other quantitative instruments using state-of-the- industry software.
Mr. Stein's expertise is in quantitative research methods, data analysis and interpretation and report preparation; and he contributes to in a variety of projects and research initiatives including education, health and social service evaluations. His project management experience includes working with clients on mining large, public databases. He received his Masters degree in Applied Research from St. John’s University. ______________________________________________________________
Ms. Jackson is an experienced qualitative researcher whose responsibilities
include site visits, case studies, interviews and focus groups. Ms.
Jackson also assists organizations with designing and using software to improve
office capabilities and efficiencies. Additionally, she works on projects that
involve databases, tracking systems and the integration and use of office
software, and oversees the training of clients in the use of survey software.
She earned her Bachelors degree in Sociology from Lehman
College, and is currently pursuing a
Masters from Queens
College.
