Each consultant is carefully selected for his or her competency in two or more
areas of expertise: management consulting, organizational development,
knowledge management, program evaluation, content development and/or fund
development.
All consultants have experience working
collaboratively and professionally with Board members, corporate and
organizational leaders, community leaders, school administrators,
government officials, foundation officers, program operators, policymakers and
other key constituents and stakeholders.
In addition to our core consultants, SSI contracts with a
select group of partners on an as-needed basis to secure specialized expertise
required by unique projects. SSI also has a network of affiliates in the
greater New York
area and other parts of the country which are utilized to meet the needs of

Dr. Doty is a New York-based, nonprofit management consultant with 30 years of expertise
in strategic planning, research and fund consulting for the nonprofit and
public sector with special focus on the education, health and social service
industries. Her expertise also extends to the for-profit sector.
During her lengthy tenure, Dr. Doty designed and conducted a broad scope of
research (local, state and national) addressing a multitude of efficacy,
advocacy and policy issues, including trends in education,
health, workforce and youth development. Dr. Doty has also contributed to,
designed and/or executed statewide and assessments for the NYS Departments of Education, Health and Labor, as well as for CUNY
and SUNY University Systems and other
area schools and school districts, and health and hospital corporations.
Additionally, she has conducted market research for the corporate sector, and
has both client and supplier side experience.
Among other accomplishments, Dr. Doty’s fundraising prowess is legendary—she
secured 50-plus million in public and private funding, and designed
and authored dozens of grant-based evaluations. Additionally, she helps clients
develop strategic plans, conduct prospect research, prepare budgets and fiscal
reports, manage funds, establish databases and tracking systems, and cultivate
cooperative partnerships for projects and grants. She also provides Board
Assist and Start-up assistance.
A gifted and published writer, Dr. Doty is further skilled at planning,
developing and executing successful communication strategies and marketing
campaigns designed to enhance the visibility and viability of an organization,
and advance its programs, services or products. Throughout her career, she has
also held a number of freelance posts in the publishing and media industries,
and served as Executive Editor for an international film magazine, Writer and
Associate Producer for a public television documentary (distributed to PBS) and Content Producer for several
digital entertainment and network design companies.
Prior to SSI, Donna held senior and executive level posts in both the
corporate and nonprofit sectors, and taught at the college and graduate levels
at Fordham University. She also sat on the Board of Directors for
several local nonprofit organizations, and currently is an officer on a for-profit Board
Dr. Doty is also a member of the Nonprofit
Professionals Advisory Group, the Nonprofit
Board Members Network, the American
Sociological Association and the American
Educational Research Association. She consults with schools and school
districts on issues of assessment and evaluation, and has conducted regional
workshops and presentations on educational research and evaluation, as well as
on fundraising and grant writing.
Dr. Doty holds Doctorate and Master degrees in Sociology from Fordham
University and Bachelor degrees in Sociology and Psychology from Molloy
College; she is a recipient of the prestigious Herbert H. Lehman
Fellowship, two Fordham University fellowships and numerous other
scholarly honors and awards. She was also a nominee for Who’s Who of American Women and most recently, a member of the American Library Association.
